Analysis on the Import and Export Data of Titanium Products of March 2023
Titanium Ore
According to customs data, China imported 430,500 tons of titanium ore in March 2023, with an average price of $377.05/ton. The accumulated import volume of the titanium ore in March 2023 was approximately 1,103,700 tons, a year-on-year increase of 38.9%, with an import volume increase of approximately 309,100 tons.
In April 2023, the top three countries for titanium ore imports were Mozambique, Norway, and the Vietnam, accounting for 55%, 17%, and 10% of total import volume respectively.
The table shows that the total import volume of titanium ore increased by a year-on-year growth rate of 38.91% compared to last year. However, the titanium ore quantities imported by mainstream countries have all decreased. The increase in imported titanium ore from Mozambique is mostly in the form of raw ore. This year, Vietnam and Norway witnessed a significant increase in the import volume of titanium ore. The domestic supply of imported titanium concentrate ore remains tight.
Titanium Dioxide
According to customs data, China's titanium dioxide import volume in March 2023 was about 4679.41 tons, a month-on-month decrease of 3.09%, and a year-on-year decrease of 63.60%. The accumulated export volume of titanium dioxide in Q1 2023 was about 13,155.21 tons, an decrease of 64.25% compared to the same period last year, with an decreased export volume of about 23,641.49 tons.
The top three regions for sponge titanium exports from China in Q1 2023 were Chinese Taiwan, Japan, and USA, accounting for 27%, 22%, and 13% respectively.
In March 2023, China's titanium dioxide export volume was about 151,300 tons, a month-on-month decrease of 1.89%, and a year-on-year increase of 4.31%. The accumulated export volume of titanium dioxide from January to March 2023 was about 437,100 tons, an increase of 12.65% compared to the same period last year, with an increased export volume of about 49,100 tons.
In March, the top three countries for titanium dioxide exports were India, Turkey, and Brazil, accounting for 16%, 7%, and 7% of total exports respectively.
The average monthly import price of titanium dioxide in March was $3741.52 per ton,showing a month-on-month increase of 4.56%. The average monthly export price of titanium dioxide from in March 2023 was $2197.19 per ton, showing a month-on-month increase of 3.64%.
The export data of titanium dioxide in the first quarter of 2023 remains favorable, with weak domestic market demand and strong international market demand. The export volume to the main exporting countries of titanium dioxide has increased to varying degrees. Currently, some titanium dioxide companies have export orders scheduled until late May, and the export market support is strong, titanium dioxide prices remain firm.
Sponge Titanium
In March 2023, China exported 569.6 tons of sponge titanium, showing a month-on-month increase of 56.70% and a year-on-year increase of 612.47%. The accumulated export volume of the sponge titanium in Q1 2023 was 1014.3 ton, a year-on-year increase of 589.64%, with an increased export volume of about 867.25 tons.
The top three regions for sponge titanium exports in March 2023 were Russia, Netherlands, and Estonia, accounting for 32%, 27%, and 23% respectively.
In Q1 2023, the accumulated import volume of the sponge titanium was 100.05 tons, showing a year-on-year decrease of 97.55%, with a decreased import volume of about 3990.27 tons. Due to the low market demand and the high import prices of sponge titanium, there was no imports of sponge titanium in March.
