Colorless or slightly yellow solid occur- ring in filamentous, granular, and powdered forms. Forms a viscous colloidal solution with water; insoluble in alcohol, ether, and chloroform. Com- bustible. Sodium alginate occurs as an odorless and tasteless, white to pale yellowish-brown colored powder.
